• YANA – ‘You Are Not Alone’

Margaret Stone, the county councillor for Broome, is highlighting the high rate of suicide within the farming community. This is possibly because of the access to opportunities to commit suicide and a tradition of not seeking help. Please see the attached poster which stresses there is a desire to help those facing problems and their families, and that they are not alone in dealing with their difficulties.

Final joint press release – All Hallows

The clerk attended the latest meeting of the All Hallows Closure Liaison Group on Friday 26th April with the attached press release already in the public domain. The meeting was attended by Peter Aldous, the M.P. for Waveney, and representatives of All Hallows and the purchasers of health and social care services.

It was made clear at the meeting that new providers were extremely likely to be continuing to operate the Adele House Nursing Home and the home care without disruption to services. There was also strong hopes this would be the case with day care and the meals on wheels service, although things weren’t quite as advanced.

With the Ditchingham hospital there is also an organisation interested in taking this on, although there is a lot more to be done before that could be definite. However what was made clear by all at the meeting is that there is a desire to continue the use of Ditchingham’s 30 bed hospital, even if it is in a different way from at present, and even if there is an interruption to the service.

The group will meet again in 2 to 3 weeks time, by when more definite news should be available; and this website will be updated with information from that meeting.

  • Annual Parish Meeting Thursday 4th April

The annual parish meeting was as always excellently supported by the people of Broome.

The public expressed several concerns to the parish council with steps already having been taken to follow them up.

The poor quality of the bollard on the by-pass junction traffic island and the overgrown pavement along Yarmouth Road close to the bridge that forms the boundary with Ellingham have both been reported to the county council transport dept.

Fortunately there is no longer any litter around the junction of Loddon Road and the Loddon Ingloss Road where memorial flowers are left. The dumping of asbestos roof panels in the water works turning from the by-pass has been reported to the district council.

Also the missing footpath sign, at the start of the footpath at the Ellingham end of Yarmouth Road, close to where the pavement has become overgrown, has been reported to the county council. hopefully before too long a new one is there to point people in the right direction.

  • No Parish Council Poll

There will again be no parish council poll in Broome in May 2019. Of the existing parish councillors  6 of the 7 have been re-nominated and returned unopposed.

    They are :-

    Christine Kramer (Current Vice Chairman)

    Reg Holmes

    Mal Howlett

    Ann Frost

    Jackie Kellett

    Fred Hartwell

The 7th councillor, Robert Earl, the present chairman, did not stand for re-election.  He has found his work commitments have increased since his retirement. He has been a councillor since 1982 and was thanked for his services at the annual parish meeting on the 4th April.

The resulting vacancy can be filled at the new council’s first meeting – the annual general meeting on Thursday 9th May at 7.30 p.m. at the village hall. Councillors can co-opt a resident of Broome to join them and bring the council up to full strength.

  • All Hallows (2)

Attached below is a statement released by the All Hallows Healthcare Trust and the purchasers of health and social care services from the trust prior to a closed meeting held as Ditchingham Village Hall on Friday 29th March to discuss the situation regarding the proposed All Hallows closure. It was attended by the Broome Parish Council Vice –   Chairman Christine Kramer.

    All Hallows Meeting Brief FINAL[7897]

  • All Hallows

This message was received from Broome’s county councillor Margaret Stone on Saturday 23rd March 2019.

“All the services which All Hallows’ provides, will continue in some capacity so that all Service users will be accommodated as far as possible without a break in that service. Until we know the details of any new structure, it is difficult to be more precise. All the Commissioners of these services are working closely together and understand how distressing this is for both employees and those who use the services.”

The parish council will update the information as more becomes available.

  • Planning News

    Marsh Land Development

This has been refused planning permission. This was at the district council planning committee meeting early in December. District councillor Brendon Bernard, parish council vice chairman Christine Kramer, and a local resident; spoke against the scheme at the meeting. It was refused for a number of reasons, including flood risk, the effect on the amenity of the village and local residents, and for traffic and access reasons.

9 Houses North of Yarmouth Road

Although district councillor Brendon Bernard and parish councillor Reg Holmes spoke against this at the district council planning committee meeting  in early November, it was approved. The Norwich Area Development Plan only recommended 5 homes on the land. However it has only got provisional approval as agreement hasn’t yet been reached on the provision of affordable homes on the site.

9 Houses at the back of Sun Road

This development which would have backed onto the rear gardens of a number of properties along Sun Road has been refused. However an accompanying plan for 2 homes on Sun  Road, infilling the present gap in development on the eastern side of the road, has been approved. This approval is only ‘in principle’. A detailed plan would have to gain approval before building could start, and any such plan could be refused or have some conditions attached to it.

    Norwich Area Greater Plan

This will decide how the Norwich area is intended to develop up until 2036. It is in it’s early stages of preparation but 2 new sites have been suggested for development in Broome.

1 is the area of land between the heath and Yarmouth Road, adjacent to the site where there is already approval for 5 homes.

2 is adjacent to the aforementioned site above where 9 homes have just been approved.

Broome Parish Council will discuss these proposals at their council meeting on Thursday 3rd January at 7.30 p.m. at the village hall; and members of the public can attend the meeting and make they’re views known.
