• Coronavirus (2)

Around the country a lot of volunteer groups are being set up to help local vulnerable people who are having to self isolate. The parish council has applied for funds which can be passed on to meet the expenses of these groups. If there is a volunteer group that is covering Broome and is incurring expenses then contact the clerk, Paul Austin, on (01986) 892012, or e-mail [email protected]; and the parish council will see if the expenses can be re-imbursed.

    COVID – 19 Member Briefing Friday 20 March 2020

In line with government regulations the play area behind the village hall is now closed. Hopefully this restriction will be lifted before too long, along with all the other ones. This website will publicise once it has reopened.

  • All Hallows (9)

The clerk attended a meeting of the All Hallows Steering Group on Thursday 27th February at the site of All Hallows Hospital. This was attended by the Managing Director of the Oakleaf Group who are the agency who will take over operation of the site as a neuro care clinic. Staff were already on site at the time of the meeting clearing through the contents of the hospital in readiness for major internal re-furbishment work to start on Monday 2nd March.

The managing director told us of her plans for the hospital and also took us on a tour of the building. She hopes it will be in operation by the summer. There will be 25 rooms to provide care for those requiring neuro care such as stroke victims and those who’ve suffered head injuries. Many of these will be en-suite. There are also likely to be 4 high dependency beds for those requiring ventilation.

The Oakleaf group, who operate nationwide, hope to provide local employment. There is also a possibility outpatient physiotherapy services may once again be provided in the future. The managing director is very keen that there should be close links with the local community, she sees this as essential to the success of the new care service.

Those of you who are interested in the future success of All Hallows (everybody!) may find further information will be given at the Broome Parish Council Meeting on Thursday 5th March – 7.30 p.m. village hall small meeting room, where it is on the agenda for discussion.

  • All Hallows (8)

The Oakleaf Group have announced future plans for the use of All Hallows Hospital, which will involve the provision of adult neuro-rehabilitation services. These are intended to start in the summer, when refurbishment work has been carried out at the hospital. More information will be provided on this page when it is available.

  • Remembrance Sunday

The Reverend Chris Hutton will be conducting a remembrance service at the war memorial in front of the village hall this Sunday at 9.45 a.m.

  • All Hallows (7)

Broome Parish Council has been represented on the steering committee that has been trying to ensure local views are taken into account when the future of the main hospital site is decided.

The group hasn’t met for more than three months for a number of reasons, including a reorganisation of the local national health service organisations that are responsible for arranging the provision of health care. The members of the committee have also been very strictly controlled by confidentiality conditions as to the amount of information that can be made public.

It can however now be disclosed that a health provider has been in discussions with the All Hallows Health Care Trust about utilising the hospital site and that these discussions are at an advanced stage. A public announcement is now likely shortly as is an agreement on a lease. The provider is planning to make a considerable financial investment in the site.

  • All Hallows (5)

Broome Parish Council was represented at the latest meeting of the liaison committee on Friday 14th June, along with representatives of the public bodies that organise health and social care as well as the Waveney M.P. Peter Aldous.

At the meeting it was made known that arrangements for the transfer of the running of home care and Adele House were almost complete. A press release regarding day care will be made on Monday. A steering group, on which Broome Parish Council will be represented, has been formed which will have as it’s aim the re-use of the now disused hospital in the best possible way for health and social care.

Physiotherapy was only undertaken at All Hallows on a sub contract basis. When All Hallows pulled out it was taken back by East Coast Care. It is currently being provided in Beccles, but there are some hopes that it will in the future be provided for local people in Bungay or Ditchingham.
